Hokies extend unbeaten streak to 13 games

[TUESDAY TOP 25 ACTION] Scott Dillie came off the bench and scored to give No. 8 Virginia Tech a 1-1 tie at No. 23 Duke.

The draw extended the Hokies' unbeaten streak to 13 matches. They have not lost since falling to VCU, 4-0, on opening day.

"I give credit to our team to be able to dig deep and go to the bench and that really helped us tonight," Tech coach Oliver Weiss said. "We just had an off
night, but in the end if we get a point on the road, it's a good result for us."

The tie was the third 1-1 draw on the road against an ACC power. The Hokies previously escaped from Virginia and Maryland with draws.

Duke opened the scoring on Joshua Medcalf's goal in the seventh minute and was unlucky not to put several more goals past Tech keeper Markus Aigner.

Aigner, one of three German transfers to start for the Hokies, made six saves.

Duke was without star Mike Grella, suspended after he received a red card late in Duke's 3-0 loss to Wake Forest.

Virginia (2-0-4) is third in the ACC behind Boston College (5-0-0) and Wake Forest (4-0-1).

VIRGINIA-LIBERTY (3-0). German Yannick Reyering had his first career hat trick. On the first goal, he collected the ball in midfield, dribbled past several defenders into the box and scored. His other goals came when he one-timed a cross from Chris Tierney and scored on a half-volley after receiving a cross from T.J. Cyrus.
