Notre Dame went 2-4-1 in non-conference play, but there was no stopping the Irish when they hit Big East action.
The Irish concluded
regular-season play with a pair of 3-1 wins at Seton Hall and Rutgers to finish 11-0-0 in conference play and claim first place in the National Division.
First place in the American Division
came down to the final weekend. St. John's 1-0 overtime victory over Connecticut knocked the Huskies out of a first place tie with West Virginia and give the title to the Mountaineers, who beat
South Florida, 2-0, and Marquette, 3-1.
The top five teams in each division advance to the Big East Tournament, which begins Thursday when USF travels to Villanova and
Rutgers faces St. John's in battles of 4-5 seeds.
West Virginia's Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium will serve as host for the semifinals (Nov. 9) and championship game (Nov. 11). The final
three matches of the Big East Tournament will be televised live on CSTV.
