Portland women roll before sell-out crowd

[WCC] Portland followed up on its 4-0 over No. 11 San Diego before a nationally televised audience on Thursday night with a 2-0 victory over longtime WCC nemesis Santa Clara Sunday before a sell-out crowd of 4,892 at Merlo Field.

Just like she did against USD, sophomore Michelle Enyeart had the first goal UP, and Angie Woznuk converted a second-half penalty kick after Enyeart was taken down in the box.

Portland and Santa Clara have won or shared every WCC title in league history and claimed three of the last six national championships, but the Pilots have now won six games in a row -- the last four by shutout -- while the depleted Broncos fell to 3-5-2 in their last 10 matches.

"It was a great day," Portland coach Garrett Smith said after the match. "The sun was out, it was a packed house and two playoff teams battled it out. To get the win and a shutout made it that much better. Both teams seemed a bit fatigued after some hard-fought matches earlier this week, but I think the fans were treated to a good one today."
