No. 1 UCLA loses supersub Mac Kechnie for season

After playing sparingly in her first two seasons, UCLA midfielder Caitlyn Mac Kechnie was enjoying her best season yet.

The Camarillo, Calif., product was tied for the team lead in assists with seven and tied for third in points with 15 when she was injured in the No. 1 Bruins' 2-0 win over USC last Friday.

Mac Kechnie is out for the season after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament in the second half of the USC game.

Mac Kechnie entered the season with just four points, all on assists. Her best match of the 2007 season came against Santa Clara, when she had a goal and two assists in the 4-1 Bruin win.

The good news for UCLA is that starting midfielder Catherine Calvert, who was also injured in the USC game and did not return, is expected to be back this week.

UCLA (12-1-2) plays its final two home matches of the regular season this weekend, hosting Arizona State Friday and Arizona Sunday at Drake Stadium.
