OFF THE POST: Player's paycheck shows up on Internet

A copy of Liverpool midfielder John Arne Riise's paycheck stub has shown up on the Internet in several fan chat sites revealing his salary, home address, national insurance (tax and benefits) number and other personal details. Riise, who was declared bankrupt by Liverpool County Court for an unpaid debt of around $200,000, was paid $289,311 by Liverpool for a month's work, according the paycheck stub.

The paycheck revealed that Riise earned base monthly salary of $240,000, received $8,000 in appearances bonuses, a $500 points bonus, and a Champions League salary increase of $30,000. He paid $110,000 in taxes.

Riise has been involved in a legal battle with his former agent, whom he accused of swindling him out of $6 million.

"It must have been stolen but the player simply doesn't know how it has happened," a club insider said. "I can assure you that John Arne Riise is not in the habit of throwing payslips out. It's clearly been stolen and taken without his permission. Nobody would want their details - highly personal details - put all over the Internet."
