Canadians cheer Beckham & streaker

A Vancouver crowd of 48,172 watched the MLS's Los Angeles Galaxy and the USL's Vancouver Whitecaps play to a 0-0 tie at B.C. Place on Wednesday night. David Beckham played the first 72 minutes and was cheered on each touch by the crowd, which also erupted in cheers when a naked man jumped onto the field and scrambled around until he was tackled by security personnel.

"Shame there wasn't any goals," Beckham told USA Today. "Hope [the fans] enjoyed it with the streaker and other things."

Beckham, who chuckled during the streaker's appearance, took some corner kicks and free kicks, but didn't register a shot on goal.

The Galaxy was outplayed for much of the game by Vancouver, which finished seventh in the 2007 USL First Division standings.

Vancouver outshot the Galaxy, 12-3. Galaxy keeper Joe Cannon saved a penalty kick by Eduardo Sebrango after causing the PK with a foul on Sebrango.

The Galaxy registered its first shot in the 51st minute when Edson Buddle was denied by Vancouver goalkeeper Matt Nelson.

Los Angeles plays Minnesota Thunder of the USL in Minneapolis on Sunday.
