Wake Forest Head Coach Jay Vidovich
"First of all, I want to thank the [NCAA Men's Soccer] Committee, N.C. State, and SAS Park for everything
you did to make this facility a great place to play in and everything you do to make this a great experience for our young men. This is a tremendous thing to be here in Raleigh and play in front of
this crowd. I am proud of my team and their maturity to come back from a goal down; it just a great feeling." Marcus Tracy
all, that was just a great ball by Cody Arnoux
. [He] took it down the flank and just made a great pass."
"Over the course of the year, Coach has told
me to be confident in what I do, that I have the skills that it takes to put away balls like that. I just kept my head on the ball and tucked it away in the corner."
"We have been in that
situation before a couple times this year. We know that if we stick to our game plan and force our tactics on our opponents we'll probably will be able to find one as long as we stay confident in
what we do." Brian Edwards
"I am certainly glad I came back. This is what every child dreams of and what we work so hard for. This is the
best group of guys in the country. I wish I had another year cause this team should be even stronger next year. There are people in the waiting in the wings who are ready to step up. I am on cloud
nine right know. I just can't explain it."
"We been in those situation before as Marcus talked about before. We train on them and everything, We knew if we kept putting good balls that it
would turn for us and we would get the bounces and the break. With the way coach believes in us, he just makes us believe in ourselves and gives us the up most confidence. When he had us in the huddle
everybody knew we were going to get that other goal and we were going to go on and be able to win this." Zack Schilawski
"I mean Marcus did
a lot of work up there coming through and winning a lot of balls. I know with his athleticism a lot of time being his partner up top you got to find yourself in the right spot at the right time.
Luckily, Marcus did the work and the ball bounced my way. I saw the keeper coming after the ball a little bit and I knocked it in." Ohio State Head
Coach John Bluem
"We offer our congratulations to Wake Forest University. They're an outstanding team. They're a very disciplined team. (They have) a very good attacking side. They play
with heart and character, and I thought they were very good on the night."
"I also think we represented ourselves very well. Unfortunately we conceded a couple goals in counter-attack
situations. We had a problem when our left back Tim Gabel
, who has been carrying an injury for a while, had to leave the game and could no longer continue. I
think that hurt us."
"We had a wonderful weekend. Our student-athletes have experienced something they will remember for the rest of their lives."
"As you can imagine, they guys
right now are crushed, as anyone would be. I think a couple days from now they'll reflect back on what we achieved this year and realize what an incredible experience it was and what a wonderful
team we had. There's no reason at all for our players to hang their heads because they played a super game. It just didn't go our way." Roger
Espinoza On the second half
"We made a couple of mistakes and they were able to finish it."
"There was no reason to attack if we
were winning. We thought we already had the game won. We didn't need the second goal. We were just going to play and whatever happened, go with that. We just made a couple mistakes." Eric Brunner
"We came out fired up in the first half. We respected Wake Forest as an opponent, but we definitely didn't fear them. We came out on all
cylinders and took it to them. They kind of got side-tracked. They didn't expect us to come out as fast as we did. When we got our first goal, we were real confident going into halftime that we could
hold the shutout. We made a couple bad mistakes and Wake Forest is a good enough team that they'll capitalize on that, and they did."
"I'm proud as hell. I've never been a part of a team
that had the character we've had. It's tough leaving, ending my career that way. I thought we could have won it. We proved we're one of the top two teams in the nation. We knocked off the defending
national champs and were unfortunate here. Nothing to take away from Wake Forest, they're a great team, but I think we could have been holding the first-place trophy today."
