England's new coach, Fabio Capello, was coy over the chances of Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham's chances of earning a spot on his squad. However, Capello, who famously dropped and then recalled Beckham as coach of Real Madrid last season, indicated that he wouldn't rule out including the 32-year-old.

"I had a contrasting relationship with David Beckham at Real Madrid," Capello admitted, "but in the end he demonstrated what a great man and great player he is. Beckham has gone on record saying he wants to be part of England's 2010 World Cup campaign.

England's first game of the Capello era comes on Feb. 6 when it faces Switzerland. His plans should become clearer when the Italian starts meeting with England's players early next month. He officially starts the job Jan. 7. Capello has signed a four-year deal with England's Football Association worth $12.6 million per year -- a record for a national team coach.
