Former UCSB star Frimpong convicted of rape

Ghanaian Eric Frimpong, a member of UC Santa Barbara's 2006 national championship team, faces up to eight years in prison after being convicted Monday of raping a student 10 months ago.

Frimpong found guilty of raping the woman on a beach in Santa Barbara.

The jury verdict surprised Frimpong's supporters because his DNA was not found on the woman. Frimpong's attorney reportedly plans an appeal.

Jurors acquitted Frimpong of sexual battery against another female student in an earlier incident.
