Dempsey's late goal saves Fulham against Wigan

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Clint Dempsey scored his first goal in seven weeks to give Fulham a 1-1 tie with Wigan Saturday in the English Premier League club's first game since Manager Lawrie Sanchez was fired.

Dempsey's goal, his fifth of the EPL campaign, came in the 78th minute when a ball rebounded to Dempsey, who scored from 12 yards.

Fulham, which had fired Sanchez on Friday, remained in 19th place, one point ahead of Wigan. Both are in the relegation zone.

Carlos Bocanegra also started for the Cottagers and cleared a shot by Dutchman Denny Landzaat off the line in the sixth minute.
