It looks like Derby County manager Paul Jewell is finally putting his money where his mouth is: SportingLife reports that the Rams are closing in on three new midfielders: Blackburn Rovers' Robbie
Savage, Tottenham's Hossam Ghaly, and free agent Laurent Robert, formerly of Levante in Spain. In the weeks leading up to the January transfer window, Jewell repeatedly said that Derby was not good
enough to stave off relegation, and that new players would have to be brought in. Having just received international clearance for Argentine striker Emanuel Villa, Jewell now looks close to signing
four new players in all.
The impending transfers don't bode well for Derby's American duo Benny Feilhaber and Eddie Lewis, as each of the new players are also midfielders. Lewis can
also play at left back. Coach Jewell said a goalkeeper is the last slot he's looking to fill.
Of the three, SportingLife says the Robert deal -- a contract until the season on a free
transfer -- looks to be the most advanced. That said, Blackburn manager Mark Hughes says he will not stand in the way of Robbie Savage leaving Ewood Park; meanwhile, Egyptian Hossam Ghaly is so keen
to leave Tottenham, he's pulled out of the African Nations Cup in order to secure a transfer.
