Giants fall in domestic cup competitions

La Liga leader Real Madrid lost, 1-0, at home to Real Mallorca in the King's Cup and went out of the tournament, 3-1, on aggregate in their round-of-16 series.
European champions AC Milan went out of the Italian Cup after being held, 1-1, at Catania.
Catania had won the first leg, 2-1, and therefore moved on to the quarterfinals.
Defending champion Ajax was knocked out of the Dutch Cup when the Amsterdam club fell to NAC, 4-2, while six-time French league champion Lyon lost to Le Mans, 1-0, on a goal by Japanese international Daisuke Matsui in the quarterfinals of the French League Cup.
