Albright Reacts to NE Trade

Goal.com's Kyle McCarthy interviews defender Chris Albright about his recent trade from the L.A. Galaxy to the New England Revolution, an announcement which came during the first round of the MLS SuperDraft on Friday. Albright, a member of the Galaxy for seven years, was ambivalent about the trade.

"I didn't understand it when I first heard about it," Albright said, adding that once he knew what was going on he made it clear that New England was his preferred destination. "I know it's a salary cap thing. I find the decision curious on their part." By "curious," Albright is referring to the fact that he only just signed a new contract with the league last week. "That's what I'm most disappointed about," he said. "They could have dealt my rights [before they re-signed me]. They negotiated an offer with me to help them on their cap. It's a bit of a slap in the face. I felt that I'd done enough to deserve that consideration."

However, the former U.S. international is quick to add that he's excited about the opportunity of playing under Steve Nicol. "The quality of the organization, the team, and Steve [Nicol] as a coach makes me want to play there. I'm excited about it...I think I fit in well with the mold of a Revs player."
