Cristiano Ronaldo Gem Buries Portsmouth

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 18th and 19th Premier League goals of the season last night, leading Manchester United to a 2-0 victory over Portsmouth. Ronaldo's second goal in particular -- a wicked looping free-kick hit with tremendous pace-left his manager Sir Alex Ferguson in awe. "That without doubt must be the best (I've seen in the Premier League)," the Manchester United coach told reporters. "No keeper in the world would have saved that." Indeed, Portsmouth keeper David James didn't even move.

Even Ronaldo was impressed with strike. "I've seen the replay and it is difficult," the 22-year-old said. "Maybe it's the best, maybe, I don't know."  After the match, Ferguson implied that Ronaldo is the best free-kick taker the club has ever seen. "David Beckham's strike rate was pretty good, Eric Cantona used to take them too but Ronaldo's strike rate is phenomenal," he said.

The Portuguese international might also be having the best season of any Manchester United player. Ronaldo's scored 27 goals in 27 starts in all competitions -- all as a right-sided winger -- and there's still a third of the season to go. Can there be any doubt that he's the best player in the world at the moment?
