Inter or Bust for Benitez

The Daily Mail says Rafael Benitez's job is on the line after Liverpool crashed out of the FA Cup on Saturday, losing 2-1 at home to second-tier club Barnsley. With a third of the season still to go, the Champions League is now the only competition the Reds could still win. Tomorrow night Liverpool hosts Inter Milan at Anfield in the Champions League second round; should Rafa's men lose the two-leg series, the Liverpool coach would surely lose his job.

"I don't think that beating Inter would make up for losing the FA Cup [game] the way we did, but it would give everyone a boost if we can get a result," defender Jaime Carragher said. "It's a major, major blow to go out of the FA Cup to a lower league team at Anfield. We realize that's not good enough," he said, adding that the fans are right to be frustrated. "I wouldn't cal l... this just a bad spell, it has been a lot longer than that."

For his part, Benitez offered no excuses for this weekend's loss. "Frankly I am stunned and bitterly frustrated," Benitez said. "You cannot blame any one player, but now we have to look to the next game against Inter. We have to concentrate on putting things right in the next match."
