Another lackluster performance, another loss for Real Madrid, although this one came in rather extraordinary circumstances, it must be said. Getafe won with a single goal that came as the Spanish
champions were celebrating a goal that had been called offside. While most of the team was saluting supporters in the stands, Getafe restarted play and raced to the other end to score. It was a
combination of bad luck and a lack of concentration.
Even so, Real failed to play fluid soccer or create much in the way of chances. The loss was the club's fourth in its last five games
in all competitions, three of which came in La Liga. Real is now just two points ahead of second-place Barcelona, which won 5-1 at home to Levante.
"I have never had a move like this
happen to me before," Madrid coach Bernd Schuster said after the match. "We have lost because of a one-off move. We celebrated a goal and then saw them score. It was unusual. For one reason or
another these, things are happening and it is costing us dear."
