Berhalter in Munich Marathon

[AMERICANS ABROAD] New Jerseyan Gregg Berhalter was part of the 1860 Munich defense that battled Bayren Munich for 120 minutes but fell on a last-minute penalty kick in the German Cup quarterfinals.

Berhalter has played in more than 150 games in Germany since arriving after the 2002 World Cup, when he helped the USA to a quarterfinal finish. He joined Second Division 1860 Munich in 2006 and captains the team.

In the league standings, 1860 Munich is in seventh place, four points below the promotion zone.

In the German Cup game, Bayern Munich won thanks to a Franck Ribery penalty kick after a foul on Miroslav Klose that replays showed occurred outside the penalty area. Minutes earlier Bayern Munich was denied a penalty kick after a similar foul inside the penalty area.
