Czech Berger Mulls MLS Summer Move

Aston Villa's Patrik Berger, a former Czech Republic international, has revealed that he's negotiating with Major League Soccer over a possible move to the United States this summer. "There is a possibility of me going to America; I know there is an interest but I can't say anything at the moment because nothing is finalized," the midfielder told ESPN Soccernet. The report doesn't mention any club in particular.

Berger's contract with Villa is up at the end of the year. After missing most of last season through injury, Berger failed to break back into the first team under new Villa boss Martin O'Neill and was loaned out to Stoke City of the English League Championship (England's second division) in the first half of the season. Since his return, Berger has put in some good performances off the bench, so he won't rule out a possible extension with Villa if presented with the opportunity.

Berger, a German Bundesliga champ in 1995-96 and an FA Cup, UEFA Cup and English League Cup winner with Liverpool in 2000-01, would be the first Czech star to join MLS since Lubos Kubik and would bring with him vast European and international experience.
