Chivas USA leaves Texas winless

With keeper Brad Guzan back in Southern California tending to an MCL sprain, Chivas USA lost to Houston, 1-0, on Friday and Toronto FC, 3-2, on Sunday in its last two matches of the Texas Pro Soccer Festival.

Lance Parker
, a Missouri State product vying for a developmental contract, played both games in the nets for Chivas USA, which took a 2-1 lead against TFC with a goal by Ante Razov after Kiki Musampa had equalized into his own net.

The Canadian MLS entry rallied with a goal by Danny Dichio and another by Jeff Cunningham, his second of the game, to post its first win of the competition.

Also starting both matches were Jonathan Bornstein, Lawson Vaughn, Jesse Marsch and Shavar Thomas. Last year's starting forward tandem of Razov and Galindo started against TFC; Harris replaced Galindo at halftime.

Guzan left the team before it began play on Wednesday, having apparently suffered the injury Monday prior to the team's departure for Texas. An update on his condition is expected Monday.

Parker conceded only a 30-yard Dwayne De Rosario rocket against the Dynamo. Arnaldo Salazar headed a corner kick off the goalpost and a Justin Braun shot was cleared off the goal line as Coach Preki used 17 players, with Braun starting up top alongside Atiba Harris. Salazar hit the post about eight minutes after replacing Braun.

Chukwudi Chijindu, yet another forward who traveled with the team to Texas, also came close in the 65th minute but Dynamo keeper Tony Caig turned away his shot. Chivas USA will finish its preseason in Southern California before opening the season March 30 at FC Dallas. It scrimmages San Diego State and Cal State Fullerton this week.
