Brazilian ref suspended for miscounting cards

[REF WATCH] Referee Jose Henrique de Carvalho has been suspended for 15 days for showing Guaratingueta midfielder Magal two yellow cards in a 2-0 loss to Corinthians without sending him off.

"He [Carvalho] made some serious mistakes," said Marcos Maurinho, head of the Paulista federation's refereeing committee. "There was a procedural error when he wrote down he had given a card for the No., 5 [Jackson] instead of No. 8 [Magal]. He maintained the decision even after being told by the fourth official."

Carvalho admitted the mistake in a postgame television interview after the game and apologized to fans. He had ejected Corinthians player Bovio in the first half.

The incident recalled England referee Graham Poll's performance in the 2006 World Cup when he didn't eject Croatia's Josip Simunic against Australia until showing him a third yellow card.
