Mourinho-Wenger Spat Prior to Carling Final

As ever, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is engaging in a war of words prior to a big match. This Sunday it's the Carling Cup final between the Sky Blues and Arsene Wenger's Arsenal ((TV: Setanta Sports USA, live, 9 am ET). Earlier this week Wenger said that not all coaches who have won the Champions League will go down in history as great managers. Taking that as a personal reference, Mourinho responded with his usual confidence-bordering-on-arrogance: "I think I am a great manager. Not many did what I did," he said referring to FC Porto's Champions League victory in 2004. "I'm not the best, but I'm in the group of eight, 10, 12, 14 in the world." He affirmed later that he considers himself the best manager in Portuguese history, while adding that he's won the Premiership with Chelsea twice in a row and has broken a few records.

Mourinho also squashed rumors that he plans to leave Chelsea at the end of the season. "There are only two ways for me to leave Chelsea. One way is in June 2010. I finish my contract then, and if the club does not give me a new one, it is the end of my contract and I am out," he said. "The second way is for Chelsea to sack me. There is not a third way - the way the manager decides to leave and walks away. No chance. I would never do this to Chelsea supporters."
