U.S. Soccer confirms Wembley clash

England will host the U.S. national team for only the second time in history when the teams meet in a May 28 friendly at Wembley Stadium.

The USA's most recent games against England have been in 2005 (when the Americans lost 2-1 in Chicago), in 1994 (a 2-0 loss at Wembley), and in 1993, when the USA beat England 2-0 in Foxborough, Mass.

The May 28 game in London will be televised live in the USA (3 pm ET) by ESPN Classic and Univision.

Both teams are preparing for 2010 World Cup qualifying play.

"We have consistently said that one of our goals is to play matches against good opponents and in environments that will really challenge our team," said U.S. coach Bob Bradley. "In addition to the quality of the English team, the tradition and passion for the sport in that country, the media focus, and the intensity of the fans all combine to make this a fantastic opportunity for our group.

The USA next scheduled game is at Poland on March 26. And it played at Spain on June 4.

The USA begins the quest to qualify for its sixth-consecutive World Cup finals when its faces the winner of the first-round series between Barbados and Dominica. The Caribbean nations drew 1-1 in the first leg on Feb. 6 in Dominica, with Barbados hosting the return leg on March 26 in Bridgetown.

The USA will host its first qualifier on June 15 at The Home Depot Center, with the second leg to be played between June 18-21 on the road.
