MLS champion Houston joined D.C. United in the semifinals of the 2008 Concacaf Champions Cup thanks to a 3-1 win over Guatemala's Municipal on Wednesday. Like United against Harbour View on Tuesday, Houston only put its rival away with a strong second half at home.

Both the Dynamo and D.C. showed with their second-half performances one of them could be the first American team to win this tournament since the Los Angeles Galaxy pulled off the feat in 2000. During the first six halves of the two series, D.C. and Houston combined for two goals; they struck for seven goal in their final 45 minutes.

The MLS teams got scoring from old and new sources. United midfielder Devon McTavish, who had no goals or assists in his rookie campaign of 2007, had three goals against Harbour View. Chris Wondolowski, who had just one goal in his rookie season last year,  scored Wednesday. MLS MVP Luciano Emilio had a pair on Tuesday for D.C., while Houston's talisman Dwayne De Rosario brought the Dynamo to life with two goals.
