U.S. U-20s recover from embarrassing loss

[YOUTH] The U.S. under-20 national team made up for an embarrassing 3-1 loss to the tiny Cape Verde Islands in their opening game with a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland on Wednesday at the Torneio Campos Verdes 2008 in Beja, Portugal.

Napoli's Vincenzo Bernardo, the University of Michigan's Peri Marosevic and Hertha Berlin's Ellis McLoughlin each scored a goal. German-born Alfredo Morales, McLoughlin's teammate in the Hertha youth system, tallied two assists in the win.

With the exception of defenders Tommy Meyer and Brek Shea, head coach Thomas Rongen used a completely different lineup than he did against the Cape Verde Islands a day ago, including D.C. United youth team goalkeeper Bill Hamid, who earned the shutout with three saves.
