The fourth largest soccer crowd in Seattle history watched Mexico beat China, 1-0, Wednesday in a friendly game that marked Jesus Ramirez
's debut as interim national team coach. Cesar Villaluz
, who played for Ramirez on Mexico's 2005
Under-17 World Cup championship team, scored early to the delight of the crowd of 56,416 at Qwest Field, the future home of MLS expansion team Seattle Sounders FC.
Only three exhibitions --
Manchester United-Celtic in 2003, D.C. United-Real Madrid in 2006 at Qwest Field and Seattle Sounders-New York Cosmos in 1976 at the old Kingdome -- drew more in Seattle than Wednesday night's match.
The east and west side of the upper level at Qwest Field were opened to accommodate the demand.
Both teams fielded largely experimental lineups.
