Less than one week after lifting Spain's King's Cup, Valencia has given Coach Ronald Koeman and several members of his coaching staff the sack. The Dutchman, who signed a two-and-a-half year deal in November following the sacking of Quique Sanchez Flores, was in charge at the Mestalla for less than six months, during which time Valencia fell from fourth place to sixteenth in the La Liga table. Salvador Gonzalez "Voro," a club delegate, will be his replacement for the final five games of the Primera Liga season.

"Ronald Koeman has had his contract rescinded by mutual agreement," the club announced on Monday, the day after a 5-1 thrashing left the club just two points above the relegation zone. "Voro has been appointed coach with total freedom to do what he thinks needs to be done to take the club forward in these last five matches with the 25 first team players."

For starters, Voro has reinstated the trio of former Spanish internationals banished under Koeman. In his first press conference as coach, Voro said David Albelda, Santiago Canizares and Miguel Angulo would once again compete for place in the first team. "They are players like the other 25 and if I think they are ready to play, they'll play," he said.
