Various reports in England are linking Liverpool's out-of-favor striker, Robbie Fowler, with a move to MLS, possibly the New England Revolution. Revs Coach Steve Nicol says he's definitely interested
in the player, a former teammate at Anfield in the mid-1990s. "We'd be interested in Robbie," Nicol told reporters. "But at the moment the first thing is the financial side. We've spoken, but as of
yet nothing's been settled."
Earlier this week, Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez described Fowler as Liverpool's best finisher. Despite these claims, the 31-year-old's first-team appearances this
season have been limited. What's more, Benitez is believed to be looking to add two new strikers to his catalog next season. Fowler's Liverpool contract expires in May.
George Scott, the
player's agent, downplayed the MLS link saying, "I don't think [New England] could afford him anyway. If he was to think about moving, Qatar or Dubai could be an option." Nicol emphasized that the
Revs wouldn't put Beckham-money behind securing Fowler's signature. "Because of the type of money David Beckham has got, a lot of people think everybody has that kind of money, which is not the case,"
he said. "At the present time, speaking to some people we're pretty much miles apart in terms of the financial side."
