North Carolina women's attack gets big boost

North Carolina's Anson Dorrance has assembled arguably the deepest women's recruiting class in the country with the signing of four incoming freshmen ranked among the top 20 players in the country and the nation's top JC player -- all forwards.

Forwards Courtney Jones (Mustang Fury, Calif.), the daughter of former NFL star Brent Jones, Merritt Matthias (Vestavia Attack, Ala.),  Brittani Bartok (World Class, N.J.), and Rachel Wood (Slammers FC, Calif.) and Jessica McDonald (Phoenix College) will boost the Tar Heel attack that scored  only 56 goals in 2007 -- the fewest goals in the program's 29 years.

Matthias, Bartok and Wood are all members of the U.S. U-18 national team pool. McDonald played on the 2007 U.S. Pan-American Games silver medalist team.

Also enrolling this fall are Pammy Boneparth, Caroline Early, Emmalie Pfankuck and  Kim Currie.
