The New England Revolution, which will field U-16 and U-18 teams in U.S. Soccer's Development Academy in the 2008-09, has hired Portugal native Mario Prata
as its new Director of Youth Development.
Prata, whose playing career included five seasons with Portuguese power Benfica and who represented Portugal at the national youth team level,
joins the Revolution from the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association.
He has been one of MYSA's full-time development coaches since 1999 and an instructional staff coach since 1997. Prata
has also been a member of the U.S. Boys' U-14 coaching staff since 2004, helping identify the nation's premier youth players.
He also has extensive experience with the Massachusetts Olympic
Development Program (U-13, U-15 teams) and Region 1 teams (U-12 and U-13). Prata was also an assistant coach at Worcester State College in 1998 and 1999.
