Subotic Headed For Dortmund?

Mainz 05's highly rated American, Neven Subotic, 19, could be headed for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, reports the German sports weekly Kicker. Subotic's coach at Mainz this past season, Juergen Klopp, has just made the same move, and wants the central defender to follow him north.

Last season Mainz's second division campaign ended with them just missing out on promotion to the Bundesliga. Subotic only missed a single game, when he was dropped for showing up late to training one day. Kicker says this was the only reason that Klopp could find for leaving the "wonder kid" out of his lineup.

"Unless all the signs are wrong, then Klopp wants to take his defensive jewel with him as a 'starting present.' Clearly Dortmund is trying to land the defender, who's being hawked on the transfer market with a €3 million ($4.6 million) price tag." Dortmund's Technical Director Michael Zorc called Subotic a "very, very good man." while Klopp repeatedly heaped praise upon the player throughout the past season for his ability to learn quickly and his "sensational physique."
