American Teen Jeffrey Signs For Bruges

U.S. midfielder Jared Jeffrey has signed a three-year contract with Club Bruges of the Belgian Jupiter League. The U.S.U-17 residency product signed after turning 18 over the weekend, the age at which non-European Union players can legally join European clubs as professionals.

"Yes, he signed for Club Bruges for three years," said a spokeswoman for the team's general secretary, Jacques De Nolf. "He was finally eligible to join since he is now 18." The three-year contract has an option for two additional years.

Jeffrey, who has represented the U.S. at U-17 level, trained with Bruges in Turkey before securing the contract. Bruges will play in the UEFA Cup this coming season after finishing third in the Belgian League in 2007-08. It was 10 points behind champion Standard Liege, Oguchi Onyewu's current club.
