Beckham Wants England Captaincy Back After All

Los Angeles Galaxy wide midfielder David Beckham has changed his mind about the England captaincy. Life, it turns out, would be too short for him to turn down the long-term opportunity to lead his national team again.
 
Beckham was made captain for the day when England beat Trinidad & Tobago earlier this month, and new coach Fabio Capello is rotating the armband on a game-by-game basis as he seeks his leader of strong-jawed, doughty but technically flawed footballers. Only a cynic would speculate that the decision to make Beckham captain against the Caribbean nation was in some way connected to the English Football Association's courting of Jack Warner to back England's bid for the 2018 World Cup.
 
"I am older and one of the more experienced players and of course if it was handed to me at any point I would never turn it down," Beckham said. "But there are a lot of candidates that are ready for it now. We are very lucky because we have players in our team that are leaders and captains, like Stevie G [Steven Gerrard], JT [John Terry] and Rio [Ferdinand]. He [Capello] will make the choice and it is his choice to do it the way he has." If you catch his drift.
