Homesick Colombano Leaves Wizards

For every one of Major League Soccer's South American signings heralded as a harbinger of technique and quality to MLS, there seems to be a corresponding failure. Argentine midfielder Eloy Colombano left the Kansas City Wizards Thursday "by mutual consent."

"He's very homesick," technical director Peter Vermes said. "He got married this past offseason, he's got a new son, and they live there and he lives here." Vermes said Colombano told him he loves the team and the staff, but he's 25 years old and wants to play. Being away from his family was "very, very difficult."

Colombano signed with the Wizards last August after playing for Defense y Justicia in Argentina. In seven games this season (one start) he's failed to register a point, while in 10 games last year (one start) he tallied a single goal and a single assist. His departure opens up a senior roster spot for the Wizards.
