Galaxy Still The Entertainers

There were mainly low-scoring games in Major League Soccer this past week (only three out of nine games produced more than two goals), but the L.A. Galaxy, the league's top scorers with 31 goals, continued to buck the trend by putting three past the Columbus Crew. It also conceded three to share the points, with David Beckham squandering an easy chance to win the game shortly before the end.
 
"The team scores like no other in the league -- and then can concede goals at the same pace," writes Andrea Canales. "That's not a satisfying combination for the players themselves, and the frustration was evident." Landon Donovan, who scored twice but could have had six, said "we were a little naive and a little unlucky and that's usually a bad combo. We got punished for it tonight. We weren't really clicking."
 
Coach Ruud Gullit talked about throwing away two points, while Beckham said the win felt like a loss. As for his late miss, "the grass gave way just as I struck the ball. To hit it so far off from that distance something must have happened. It felt like a penalty I took once against Portugal [at Euro 2004], and if you watch the video as I went to strike the ball it actually lifted up from my standing foot." And sorry, sir, but the dog ate my homework.
