[SOUTH AMERICA] LDU Quito moved a
step closer to becoming the first Ecuadorian club to win the Copa Libertadores when it downed Brazil's Fluminense, 4-2, in first leg final on Wednesday.
Hosting the Brazilians at 9,000
feet above sea level, LDU Quito took the lead two minutes after kickoff through
Claudio Bieler.
Fluminense equalized in 11th minute with a free kick by
Dario Conca.
But goals by
Joffre Guerron, Jairo Campos and
Patricio Urrutia gave a 4-1 lead by halftime.
Fluminense looked much better in the second half and made it 4-2 with a goal by
Thiago Neves.
The two Copa Libertadores final debutants teams meet in the second leg in Rio de Janeiro on July 2.
