Busy month broadens Team of the Month recipients

[MLS AWARDS] With four MLS teams competing in SuperLiga, the first round of which concludes just in time for the All-Star Game, the load of league matches in July will decrease significantly from that of June, during which five weekends of play helped sort out teams in both conferences. Sort of.

New England's balance and a potent attack in Los Angeles propelled those teams atop the conference races and also earned them the most Team of the Month honorees, with three players apiece selected. The revival of D.C. United netted two selections with a pair of other deserving players just missing the cut.

A solid month lifted Real Salt Lake into second place in the Western Conference and merited two selections. Despite Kansas City and San Jose ending the month at the bottom of the conferences, by posting three shutouts in June they each landed a defensive stalwart on the June honor roll.
