San Jose sends Kamara to Houston

[MLS] Houston and San Jose are sharing more than history in this expansion season of the Quakes, who were reincarnated this season after leaving the Bay Area two and a half years ago.

Both teams have been searching desperately to beef up their forward corps, and a few days after waiving young Argentine forward Franco Caraccio and signing former Dynamo forward Nate Jaqua, Houston traded its No. 1 2009 SuperDraft pick and allocation money to the Quakes for Kei Kamara, who had been claimed from Columbus in the expansion draft and scored two goals in 12 games.

San Jose is the lowest-scoring team in the league with only 11 goals in 17 games. Houston is 11th with 19 goals in the same number of matches.

The Quakes had acquired Kamara, 24, from the Crew in preseason, obtaining his rights in a trade that sent midfielder Brian Carroll to Columbus. Quakes coach head coach Frank Yallop had claimed Carroll in the expansion draft after agreeing with Columbus the terms of the trade.

Last week, the Quakes added ex-Wizard forward Scott Sealy and ex-Norwich striker Darren Huckerby to a list of acquisitions that includes forward John Cunliffe from Chivas USA and Brazilian midfielder Francisco Lima.

In a 0-0 tie with Toronto FC last Saturday, Lima played 63 minutes in his debut. Huckerby played 64 minutes before being replaced by Kamara and Sealy came off only in the final minute of stoppage time.
