Grimes and Trask get long-term extensions

California's Kevin Grimes and UIC's John Trask, two of the most sought-after men's head coaches, have both been granted long-term contract extensions.

Grimes (93-57-15 record) signed new five-year contract at Cal, which won back-to-back Pac-10 titles in 2006 and 2007. He had been considered a leading candidate for the vacant coaching position at his alma mater, SMU.

The former U.S. international (seven caps) has guided the Bears to seven NCAA Tournament appearances in eight seasons, including the sweet 16 in 2002 and '06 and the elite right in 2005.

Trask, 36-14-13 in his three years at UIC, signed a four-year contract extension.

In 2007, UIC won the Horizon League championship and went on to advance to the NCAA elite eight for the first time in school history. In 2006, he was named the Horizon Coach of the Year.
