Quakes rock Revs; Red Bulls rise continues

[MLS NAMES & NUMBERS] The league's worst team on points upset MLS's top club when previously goal-shy San Jose exploded for four against New England. New York's resurgence looks real. A fourth player hit the century mark in MLS goals. Defending champ Houston fired on all cylinders to take first place in the West. For the weekend's MLS highlights. ...

100. Jeff Cunningham, in his first game for FC Dallas since arriving from Toronto FC, scored in the 35th minute to notch his 100th MLS career goal. But Dallas fell, 2-1, to Columbus, which got second-half goals by Brian Carroll and Brad Evans (both set up by Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who has 12 assists this season.) FC Dallas is Cunningham's sixth MLS club. He started with the Crew in 1998 and scored 62 goals before moving to Colorado in 2005, when he scored 12 goals. He scored 16 for Real Salt Lake in 2006 and three in 2007 before moving to Toronto, where he scored three more. He scored three this season for Toronto before the trade to Dallas.

4. Cunningham is the fourth player to score 100 regular-season goals: Jaime Moreno (D.C. United) 120; Ante Razov (Chivas USA); 113; Jason Kreis (retired) 108; Jeff Cunningham (FC Dallas) 100.

MIKE MAGEE, a sixth-year MLS striker, scored in back-to-back games for the first time in his career when he opened the scoring in 37th minute in the New York Red Bulls' 2-0 win over FC Toronto. Last week, Magee scored in the Bulls' 4-1 win over D.C. United. Against Toronto, the Red Bulls played the final 44 minutes a man down after the ejection of Gabriel Cichero for elbowing Danny Dichio. Juan Pablo Angel, set up nicely by Dane Richards, scored his seventh goal of the season stoppage time.

BRIAN McBRIDE, fresh off his Olympic appearance, made his debut for the Chicago Fire as a 46th minute sub in a 1-0 loss to D.C. United, which scored when Fred headed home Jaime Moreno's corner kick.

7,975 minutes is New England keeper Matt Reis' MLS record streak for consecutive minutes played. The streak ended when Reis was replaced by Doug Warren in the 55th minute of the Revs' 4-0 loss to San Jose on Saturday. The Quakes were ahead, 1-0, when Reis left the game with a right abductor strain. His streak spanned 89 regular-season matches and dated back to Sept. 3, 2005. Including postseason games, Reis played 9,145 consecutive minutes (spanning 101 matches). The Revs' loss, combined with Columbus' 2-1 win over FC Dallas, dropped the Revs out of first place in the East for the first time since May 17. But the Revs, one point behind Columbus, has a game in hand.

RONNIE O'BRIEN scored twice and provided an assist in San Jose's 4-0 win over New England. The West's last-place team's victory gave it back-to-back wins for the first time this season and it is now unbeaten in its last five games. San Jose's midseason acquisitions played key roles in the win. Brazilian Francisco Lima assisted on O'Brien's first goal. Englishman Darren Huckerby notched two assists. And Trinidadian Scott Sealy, acquired from Kansas City, assisted on Ryan Johnson's goal.

BRIAN CHING scored his ninth goal of the season as four Dynamo players hit the net in Houston's 4-3 win over Real Salt Lake. The victory extended the two-time defending champ's win streak to three games and its unbeaten streak to six games. Real Salt Lake's unbeaten streak ended at four games.

4. The Dynamo's four first-half goals were the most it has ever scored in one half in team history.

CONOR CASEY scored twice in Colorado's 2-1 win over Kansas City as defender Cory Gibbs made his Rapid's debut on the backline.
