Onstad own goal blows it for Canada; comeback win for Mexico

[WORLD CUP 2010] Pavel Pardo scored two late goals to lead Mexico to a 2-1 comeback win over Honduras. Canada is already in trouble after tying at home with Jamaica because of an own goal by its MLS keeper. Suriname had a 2-0 lead until squandering it in the waning minutes against Haiti. The Ticos and Soca Warriors fared well.

Julio Cesar De Leon gave Honduras a 1-0 lead in 35th minute but German-based Pardo scored twice within three minute late in the second half to give Mexico a 2-1 win. Pavel's heroics prevented Mexico's second-ever Azteca Stadium defeat in qualifying and spared new coach Sven-Goran Eriksson of a dismal start.

The USA, after its 1-0 win at Guatemala, shares the lead in Group 1 with Trinidad & Tobago, whose Keon Daniel scored twice in Cuba in a 3-1 win.

Spain-based midfielder Julian De Guzman gave Canada the lead against the Reggae Boyz but an own goal by Houston Dynamo keeper Pat Onstad let Jamaica escape with a 1-1 tie.

Onstad, 40, making his 56th appearance for Canada, deflected into his own net a corner kick from Real Salt Lake's Andy Williams.

Haiti provided a thrilling win for its home fans when Frantz Gilles scored in the 90th minute and Brunel Fucien connected in stoppage time to earn Haiti a 2-2 tie.

Costa Rica beat El Salvador with an Alvaro Saborio goal shortly after halftime.

The Chicago Fire's Cuauhtemoc Blanco was a 70th minute sub for Mexico
