has stepped down as the women's coach at the University of California after 10 seasons to attend to new family priorities
assuming the head coaching duties at Cal in 1997, Boyd compiled a 124-63-20 record and eight NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2005, he was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year and led the Bears to the
third round of the NCAA Tournament.
"I'm thankful for 11 wonderful years at Cal and for all of the people who have touched my life during that time," Boyd said. "I'm excited to become a
father this fall, and that blessing has changed my priorities a great deal. This was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make."
Boyd's departure follows the signing of one of Cal's
best freshman classes in history. Midfielder Megan Jesolva
and goalkeeper Jorden Kussman
are ranked the No. 10 and
No. 12 recruits in the country by Soccer Buzz
Cal is the third member of the Pac-10 that will have a women's coaching change
in the offseason. Jim Millinder
was replaced by Cal State Fullerton's Ali Khosroshahin
at USC, while Arizona State is
seeking a replacement for Ray Leone
, who became the Harvard women's coach.
