MORNING BRIEFING: Hurricane Gustav its LSU soccer complex hard
Enjoying its highest ranking ever at No. 17 in the Soccer America Top 25
, the LSU women returned home from Chicago to discover that the LSU Soccer
Complex took a hard hit in Hurricane Gustav.
The complex lost the press box atop the stands along with fence damage and scoreboard damage. Other facilities on the Baton Rouge, La., campus
LSU is scheduled face Kent State Friday and Dartmouth Sunday at the Tiger Classic.
Tiger Stadium, home of LSU's football team, was hit hardest on the west side
of the stadium, losing awnings over Stadium Club seating as well as significant glass damage within the structure. There is also a considerable amount of debris in the stands and on the
playing field and the fence surrounding the field was damaged.
The athletic administration building incurred damage to its roof and flooding on the first floor, and other facilities
suffered damage. SPEED GAME.
Penn State's backline was exposed by Florida State's freshman speedsters, Jessica
and Tiffany McCarty
, as the Seminoles raced out to a 3-0 lead after 11 minutes and coasted to a 4-1 win. Despite the loss, Nittany Lion coach
said there was no need to panic.
"We've got plenty of speed on our team but we faced perhaps the fastest team in the country on
Friday," Walsh told
the Centre Daily News
. "In that category, we're going to be just fine and
we're probably going to have more speed than most of our opponents."
