MORNING BRIEFING: UConn gets scare

No. 2 Connecticut's high-powered attack went silent on Wednesday night. It needed an own goal in the 75th minute to beat Stony Brook, 1-0, in Storrs.

The Huskies scored when a ball was deflected past Seawolves goaltender, Dawid Ditrich, by teammate Aaron Woodruff.

UConn, whose attack features 2007 Soccer America Player of the Year O'Brian White and Jamaica international Akeem Priestley, outshot Stony Brook, 19-7.

The goal was enough as the Huskies and Seawolves battled throughout the game, using a great defensive effort on both sides of the field.

TIGERS PREVAIL. Towson handed Rutgers its first loss of the season when it won, 2-1, at the Scarlet Knights' Yurcak Field on Wednesday evening. Sophomore defender Scott Horta scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Tigers.
