[WORLD CUP 2010 QUALIFYING]
Since qualifying for the 1986 World Cup, Canada has had no luck in World Cup
qualifying. Once again, the Canadians find themselves in trouble thanks to a 1-1 tie against Jamaica in Toronto last month in the opening game of the semifinal round of World Cup 2010 qualifying. If
it doesn't beat Honduras Saturday in Montreal, Canada is in danger letting another World Cup slip away.
"We're playing a home game so we want to be aggressive, but we have to be aware of
the quality they have coming back the other way," said Canada coach Dale Mitchell
. "That's international football. I don't know if it's well understood in our
country, because the more guys you send forward, the fewer there are to defend at the other end. It's up to us coaches to find the right balance."
Canada will be led by former UC Santa
Barbara star Rob Friend
, now at Borussia Moenchengladbach, Dwayne De Rosario
of the Houston Dynamo and Tomasz Radzinski
of Greek club Xanthi.
Honduras, a recent Concacaf underachiever, will be led by striker David
, now with Portuguese club Benfica on loan from Inter Milan, and midfielders Wilson Palacios
of English club Wigan and Amado Guevara
of Toronto FC.
