As expected, Toronto FC will welcome legendary rock band Genesis to BMO Field in early September. Tony Banks
, Phil Collins
and Mike Rutherford
will be accompanied by longtime
sidemen Chester Thompson
and Daryl Stuermer
The team also confirmed that season-ticket sales have been stopped at 14,000, and it will soon begin selling mini packages of
two varieties: the Premium Pack and the International Pack. The Premium Pack (aka "Beckham Bonanza") includes home dates against Houston, New York and the Galaxy. The International Pack
includes five-regular season matches and five international games to be announced: among the rumored possibilities are Glasgow Celtic, Everton and Liverpool.
A source said that Toronto
and the Galaxy are discussing a friendly match to be played in the Canadian city this year or next at Rogers Center (formerly SkyDome), which has a capacity of 53,000 and is used by the Blue Jays
of Major League Baseball and the Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.
Not yet determined is whether the BMO Field FieldTurf surface will be replaced by grass for the international
friendlies. The Rogers Centre surface rolls up, allowing it to be converted from a baseball configuration to that of American, or rather, Canadian football in less than one day.
is an avid soccer fan and, by most accounts, a traditionalist. Yet does even he have the will, and the clout, to insist the band won't play on FieldTurf?
