Jamaica dumps Rene Simoes

[WORLD CUP 2010 QUALIFYING] Rene Simoes won't be leading Jamaica's Reggae Boyz to the World Cup finals for a second time. Only three games into the semifinal round of qualifying for South Africa 2010, the Brazilian has been fired.

Simoes' firing came a day after Jamaica dropped a 2-0 decision at Honduras. The Reggae Boyz have only one point in three games but play their final three games at home. (Their second game against Mexico was moved from Kingston to Mexico City as a result of damage caused by Hurricane Gustav.)

Simoes, who led led Jamaica to its first World Cup appearance in 1998 and served as technical director for six years, was only nine months into a three-year contract. He returned in January to succeed Bora Milutinovic, who was fired for breach of contract.
