MORNING BRIEFING: Tough day for unbeaten teams

Loyola (Md.) and Appalachian State both went into action with perfect records, but both suffered blemishes that left only four unbeaten and untied teams in the NCAA Division I men's ranks.

High Point ranked Appalachian State its first loss of the season, prevailing, 2-1, on goals by Scott Rojo and Hilaire Babou.

Goalie Michael Chesler kept Appy State off the board until the 89th minute when Ryan Maloney scored.

William & Mary held Loyola to a 0-0 tie. Loyola managed 10 shots in the match, but Daniel Ankrah's first-half strike was the only one on goal.

The shutout was the fourth of the season for the Greyhounds (5-0-1) and the 11th straight home shutout.
