Crew Shows How To Start The Second Half

There's an old soccer cliché that there's no worse time to concede a goal than just before half-time. RB New York coach Juan Carlos Osorio would beg to differ. Conceding a goal just after halftime is much worse, just as his side did 19 seconds after the interval to go 2-1 down to the Columbus Crew in Thursday's MLS game.

Osorio said the goal, from Robbie Rodgers, "destroyed everything we had talked about at halftime." At least if you concede before the break, you have 15 minutes to analyze the mistake. This way, however, and your game plan is ruined. Osorio's team went on to lose 3-1, leaving the Crew within breathing distance of a playoff spot for the first time since 2004.

"It certainly lifted our spirits," said Crew coach Sigi Schmid of the second goal. "We wanted to send a message. This is a team we could run into in the first round of the playoffs. We wanted to make sure they know that if they come to Crew Stadium they are in for a fight."
