Toronto FC's GM Mo Johnston recently went to South America and liked what he saw, and is planning to sign some fresh young talent from the continent to bolster the side's roster for next season.
What, no more aging Brits?
"I'm not looking at guys who are 33 or 34," Johnston said, no doubt to the disappointment of UK-based players' agents. "I'm looking at younger talent,
who are between 19 and 21. I went down there looking at four players that were experienced, but I didn't think they were good enough for our team. I've seen other younger talent that I think we can
benefit from in the future."
Johnston will return to the region at the end of this season to continue his player search, particularly in Brazil, where he met representatives from four
teams. "I don't think you can take one trip and find someone who's going to fit into the team and play well here in MLS," he said. "You need to take your time. I think it's important we establish
ourselves within that market, even if you don't take anything this year. We're looking towards next season."
