Busch: Time For The Men To Step Up

The Chicago Fire was booed off the field at halftime Sunday when it went in to the locker room 3-0 down at home to FC Dallas. Goalkeeper Jon Busch was no happier with the final 4-1 result than the jeering fans.

"If I paid money to go to this game, I would be booing too," Busch told Luis Arroyave after the game. "It's time for the men to step up and the boys to sit on the porch." In truth, the result could have been much worse, with Dallas squandering some easy opportunities once through on goal. Busch spent much of the game looking incredulous at the lax defensive play in front of him.

Although the Fire is still in third position in the Eastern Conference, it's hitting a patch of poor form at the wrong time of the year, just before the playoffs. The team has lost four of its last six games, and Dallas was hardly a team on form -- coming into Sunday it had won only two if its last 11. Midfielder John Thorrington admitted: "It's gut-check time. If we're not up for the battle, we don't deserve to make the playoffs."
